OpenAI Launches a Sub-$5 ChatGPT Plan in India: ChatGPT Go

OpenAI launches a sub-$5 ChatGPT plan in India, giving users a more affordable way to access its popular AI features. The new ChatGPT Go subscription is priced at just ₹399 per month (around $4.60), a significant drop from the ₹1,999 (~$23) per month Plus Plan.

This launch makes ChatGPT more accessible in India, especially after OpenAI introduced local currency pricing and UPI payment support for its plans. Now, users can pay directly through India’s popular Unified Payments Interface, making the process smooth and convenient.

What ChatGPT Go Offers

Nick Turley, OpenAI’s VP and head of ChatGPT, highlighted that this new plan boosts core features significantly:

  • 10x higher message limits compared to the free tier

  • 10x more image generations

  • 10x more file uploads

  • 2x longer memory for more personalized interactions

These enhancements allow Indian users to enjoy richer AI experiences without spending heavily.

Why India Got ChatGPT Go First

Turley explained that affordability was a top request from users. “We’re rolling out Go in India first and will learn from feedback before expanding to other countries,” he said. By introducing a sub-$5 ChatGPT plan in India, OpenAI aims to make its AI tools more inclusive and practical for everyday use.

Previously, the Plus Plan’s cost in local currency exceeded $20, making it less accessible for casual users. ChatGPT Go now offers a budget-friendly alternative for those focused on chat, image generation, and file processing.

Early Leaks and Industry Buzz

The ChatGPT Go plan had been teased by Tibor Blaho, a software engineer known for accurately revealing upcoming AI products. The official launch confirms what the tech community has been anticipating: affordable AI access tailored for emerging markets.

With OpenAI launching a sub-$5 ChatGPT plan in India, the barrier to using advanced AI tools has dropped significantly. For users seeking enhanced chat, creative AI outputs, and more storage for files, ChatGPT Go is now the go-to choice.

This move not only makes AI more accessible in India but also signals OpenAI’s commitment to scaling AI affordability globally.
