A New Approach To Cybersecurity For Seniors
While antivirus software has long focused on businesses and tech-savvy users, older adults often get left behind. Many did not grow up using the internet or smartphones, making them prime targets for scammers and hackers. ZoraSafe steps in to change that with an easy-to-use tool that also teaches digital literacy through gamified microlearning.
The ZoraSafe app helps seniors not only stay safe online but also learn how to recognize online dangers in real-time. It’s a balance of protection and empowerment — something the cybersecurity industry rarely offers to non-technical users.
Features Designed To Keep Users Safe
Catherine explained that the first version of the app, launching soon, will include several key features:
-
QR Code Scanner to detect malware or phishing links.
-
Suspicious Message Checker, allowing users to forward questionable texts or emails for review.
-
Community Scam Alerts, letting users report new scams that get added to ZoraSafe’s shared database.
This crowd-sourced protection model ensures that once one person identifies a scam, everyone in the ZoraSafe network can be warned. “We’re trying to incentivize social sharing of scams so we can alert the entire Zora network at once,” Catherine said.
Upcoming AI Features
Future updates of ZoraSafe will bring even more advanced tools. One planned feature allows the app to join a suspicious phone call in real time. Using AI, it can detect whether the call is a scam or deepfake without recording or storing the conversation — prioritizing both safety and privacy.
Ellie added that when ZoraSafe detects a potential threat, it opens a chat-based assistant that explains the issue and educates users on how to handle similar situations in the future. This ensures that each encounter becomes a learning experience.
Pricing And Launch Details
The founders plan to launch ZoraSafe in about a month, offering subscriptions starting at $12.99 per month for individual users. Family and group plans will be available at slightly higher rates.
By blending cutting-edge technology with community-driven learning, the ZoraSafe app wants to protect older people online — not just by blocking scams but by helping them understand and navigate the digital world safely.
