iPhone Satellite Messages & Find My Launch in Mexico

Apple Expands iPhone Satellite Messaging & Find My to Mexico

Wondering if you can use iPhone satellite messages in Mexico or how to access Find My via satellite in remote areas? Apple has officially rolled out Messages via Satellite and Find My via Satellite to users in Mexico, allowing iPhone owners to stay connected even without Wi-Fi or cellular networks. With this update, iPhone 14 or newer models running iOS 18.4 or later can now send text messages and share their location using Globalstar satellite technology, previously only available for Emergency SOS via Satellite. This expansion marks a major step in Apple’s satellite connectivity rollout, especially for users who frequent remote or rural areas.

To use satellite connectivity in Mexico, you’ll need an iPhone 14 or newer equipped with satellite capabilities. The receiving party must have iOS 18 or later for iMessages or iOS 17.6 for SMS messages. Satellite communication works when cellular and Wi-Fi options are unavailable, providing a lifeline in areas with limited infrastructure. The satellite-based Find My feature allows users to update their location in real time, perfect for adventurers, hikers, and travelers seeking peace of mind.

Using the feature is intuitive. When your iPhone detects no available network, it will automatically offer the option to connect via satellite. Just hold your device toward the sky, ideally in an open area away from buildings or trees, to establish a link. While text messaging and location sharing are supported, bandwidth-heavy features like images, videos, group chats, and stickers are currently not available over satellite. However, emoji and Tapback reactions are supported, keeping messages expressive even over limited bandwidth.

This new feature is completely free for iPhone users with compatible devices in Mexico, the U.S., and Canada. Whether you're exploring remote terrains, hiking in national parks, or simply facing a network outage, Apple’s satellite messaging offers a reliable, high-value connectivity solution that can potentially save lives and reduce emergency response times.

With increased support for remote communication, Apple is reinforcing its commitment to safety, accessibility, and seamless global coverage. The integration of high-demand capabilities like satellite texting and location tracking in Mexico also opens the door to future monetization opportunities and potential subscription services—an attractive proposition for advertisers and users alike.
