Luffu Link LTE Band: Fitbit Founders’ Health Wearable

Fitbit co-founders James Park and Eric Friedman have officially launched the Luffu Link LTE band, an LTE-enabled health and safety wearable designed to monitor physical and mental well-being. Announced on August 25, 2026, this new device combines all-day health sensing, voice logging, location awareness, and instant help features into one screenless wearable—even when your phone isn’t nearby.

The Luffu Link LTE band is now available for preorder at $250 and comes in halo gold, onyx black, and sterling blue. Expected to ship in early 2027, the device complements the Luffu health-monitoring app that launched earlier this year. The app uses AI to organize family health information, learn daily patterns, and flag significant changes—helping families stay aligned on well-being concerns.

Park and Friedman built Luffu from personal experience caring for aging parents and family members. The goal was to give families a clear picture of a loved one’s health without constant check-ins or making them feel monitored.

“When you become a family caregiver, or the CEO of the family, these people are spending an enormous amount of time doing it,” Park told TechCrunch. “Research shows over 27 hours a week on average, which is a crazy amount of time… I think technology can play a big role in helping reduce this load, but as we found out, the tools to help them are pretty fragmented.”

The Luffu Link LTE band aims to fill that gap. Users can press a button and speak updates about medications, symptoms, meals, mood, or reminders. The app organizes that voice-logged information and incorporates it into the broader family context.

The wearable continuously tracks standard health metrics like activity, sleep, resting heart rate, calories burned, heart-rate variability (HRV), and breathing rate. But unlike typical fitness trackers, the Luffu Link LTE band focuses on pattern recognition and actionable insights rather than just data collection.

“Link does a lot of what a typical health tracker would do, but it’s not just about tracking,” Park explained. “It’s about what Luffu does with that data. It’s looking for patterns, so maybe your activity has been unusually low.”

The device looks for changes that matter—like sleep shifts after a new medication—then answers key questions: What changed? Does it matter? Does somebody need to know? The goal is to provide peace of mind without overwhelming families with dashboards full of graphs.

The Luffu Link LTE band uses built-in GPS so trusted contacts can see the wearer’s location, including where they’ve been and when they enter or leave specific areas. A quick double press lets the wearer check in with family members without calling or texting.

The integrated LTE service is included at no extra carrier charge, so the wearable can send help requests even without a phone. For instance, the wearer could press the button and say, “I fell and hurt my wrist. Can someone come get me?” The Luffu Link LTE band then sends the voice message along with location, battery level, and health data like heart rate and recent activity to trusted contacts.

Unlike other screenless wearables focused on fitness, the Luffu Link LTE band is designed for everyday health and family connection. The lack of a screen is intentional.

“There’s a trend to have no screens on this new class of wearables, but here, it’s very purposeful,” Park said. “We want to be in the background. Link is designed to be on your wrist as a quiet guardian throughout your day.”

The device takes cues from jewelry rather than traditional wearables—no bulky pendant or generic fabric look. It’s meant to feel like a subtle accessory that works in the background.

The company targets three key audiences:

  • Family caregivers who need visibility into a loved one’s daily health

  • Independent older adults who want to stay safe without feeling monitored

  • Health- and safety-conscious adults who prefer proactive health management

While the Luffu Link LTE band is currently available at a discounted preorder price of $250, the expected retail price is $300. The startup has also teased plans for a home device that extends Luffu’s capabilities indoors, marking the next phase of its intelligent family care system.

With its combination of health tracking, voice logging, location awareness, and LTE connectivity, the Luffu Link LTE band offers a thoughtful approach to family well-being. It’s not about more data—it’s about better context and peace of mind. As families juggle caregiving responsibilities, this wearable aims to reduce the load by keeping everyone informed and connected without constant interruptions.
