Netflix Price Hike 2026: What You'll Pay Starting Now
Netflix is raising its subscription prices again — and if you're a current subscriber, your bill is about to look different. Starting March 26, 2026, new members immediately see higher rates, while existing subscribers will be notified by email roughly a month before the changes hit their accounts.

Every Netflix Plan Just Got More Expensive
The price increases touch every tier of the streaming service. The most affordable ad-supported plan now costs $8.99 per month, up from the previous $7.99. The standard ad-free plan jumps to $19.99 monthly, a $2 increase from $17.99. Premium subscribers will now pay $26.99 per month, also a $2 rise from the prior rate. No plan is escaping the adjustment, and the changes apply across the board regardless of how long you've been subscribed.
Adding Extra Viewers Is Costing More Too
If you share your account with someone outside your household, expect that cost to climb as well. Adding an extra user to an ad-supported plan now costs $6.99, down slightly from $7.99 — though that small drop is offset by the rising base price. Extra viewers added to an ad-free plan, however, will now cost $9.99, up from $8.99. The combined effect means households relying on add-on profiles face a measurably higher total bill each month.
Why Netflix Says the Prices Are Going Up
The company says the increases reflect ongoing improvements to the breadth and quality of its entertainment lineup. Since its last price increase in January 2025, the platform has rolled out video podcasts, expanded its live-streaming programming, announced a mobile app redesign, and introduced a short-form video feature. These additions, the company argues, justify asking subscribers to pay more. Whether users agree will likely show up in the next subscriber growth report.
When Will You Actually See the Change?
New members signing up from March 26, 2026 onward will see the updated prices immediately. Existing subscribers won't see the change applied without warning — the company has committed to sending email notifications at least 30 days before the new rate kicks in on any individual account. That gives current users a window to evaluate whether to keep their plan, switch to a cheaper tier, or cancel altogether before the higher charge appears.
Netflix's Bigger Moves in Early 2026
The price hike lands amid a busy stretch for the streaming giant. Earlier this year, the company made headlines after walking away from a major acquisition bid. It had been in talks to acquire a major Hollywood studio, offering more than $82 billion in an all-cash deal, but ultimately declined to raise its offer when a competing bid was deemed superior. Netflix chose to exit the deal rather than increase its stake. The company appears to be doubling down on organic growth — investing in content features and user experience — rather than pursuing large-scale mergers.
What This Means for Streaming Subscribers in 2026
Streaming fatigue is real, and every price increase forces subscribers to reassess the value they're getting. Netflix remains one of the most-watched platforms globally, but the competitive landscape is crowded. Subscribers now have more leverage than ever — multiple services compete for the same entertainment budget. If your usage has slowed, this hike may be the nudge to downgrade to the ad-supported plan or trim your subscription entirely. Either way, checking your current plan before the email notification arrives is a smart first move.
