Runlayer Launches MCP AI Security Startup with $11M

What Is Runlayer and Why It Matters?

Runlayer, a new MCP AI agent security startup, officially launched with $11 million in seed funding from Khosla Ventures’ Keith Rabois and Felicis. Founded by serial entrepreneur Andrew Berman, Runlayer is already securing eight unicorns, including Gusto, dbt Labs, Instacart, and Opendoor. The startup focuses on protecting AI agents that use the Model Context Protocol (MCP), which allows AI to access, move, and execute data autonomously.

How Runlayer Secures MCP AI Agents

The MCP protocol is widely adopted by OpenAI, Microsoft, AWS, Google, and thousands of tech companies. However, it lacks robust security by default. Runlayer addresses this gap by providing specialized security solutions for AI agents, ensuring sensitive data and enterprise systems remain safe while AI operates independently. Berman emphasizes, “AI is only as useful as the tools and resources it can securely access.”

Who Are Runlayer’s Key Backers and Customers?

Runlayer’s early support comes from influential investors like Keith Rabois and Felicis, signaling strong market confidence. In its first months, the startup has already signed multiple high-profile clients, including eight unicorns and public companies. These clients rely on Runlayer to secure AI-driven workflows and reduce vulnerabilities associated with the MCP protocol.
