According to the Culver City Police Department, 33-year-old Joseph Mayuyo, a resident of Hawthorne, was identified as the person behind multiple online threats targeting TikTok employees. The threats, shared across several social platforms, led company officials to evacuate the Los Angeles-area headquarters “out of an abundance of caution.”
Evacuation Ordered After Alarming Online Threats
Authorities said the threats against TikTok’s Culver City headquarters began circulating early Friday morning. Employees reported receiving several disturbing messages suggesting potential violence at the office. TikTok’s security team immediately contacted local law enforcement, who launched an urgent investigation.
Police confirmed that Mayuyo allegedly continued posting after the initial threats. One post reportedly warned that he “would not be taken alive,” escalating fears and prompting a swift tactical response.
Police Negotiation and Arrest
Detectives obtained both search and arrest warrants before approaching Mayuyo’s residence. After a tense 90-minute negotiation, the suspect voluntarily surrendered and was taken into custody without further incident, police said.
Culver City Police emphasized that no injuries occurred during the operation and credited quick collaboration between law enforcement and TikTok’s internal security for the safe resolution.
TikTok Employees Describe ‘Really Scary’ Situation
According to Business Insider, several TikTok employees described the experience as “really scary.” One worker reportedly expressed concern that the threats appeared to specifically target the company’s e-commerce department.
The company has not issued an official public statement but continues to cooperate with investigators. Employees were allowed to return to the office later in the day after police cleared the area.
Social Media Accounts Suspended
Reports indicate that Mayuyo’s X (formerly Twitter) account was suspended for violating the platform’s hateful content policy. A Medium account believed to belong to the same individual has also been removed. Authorities are reviewing additional posts as part of the ongoing investigation.
Law Enforcement Urges Online Vigilance
Officials used the incident as a reminder of how quickly online threats can turn into real-world emergencies. Police urged users to report suspicious or violent content immediately to prevent potential harm.
