Snapchat Is Going To Charge For Storage — Here’s How To Save Your Memories For Free

If your Memories go beyond this limit, you’ll need to either export them or subscribe to one of Snapchat’s new storage plans to keep them safe.

What Snapchat’s New Storage Plans Look Like

Snapchat outlined its storage options in an email to TechCrunch:

  • Introductory Plan: 100GB for $1.99/month

  • Snapchat+ Users: 250GB for $3.99/month

  • Snapchat Platinum Users: 5TB for $15.99/month

If you don’t subscribe and your Memories exceed 5GB, Snapchat will automatically delete your most recent Snaps, keeping only the oldest ones.

Temporary Storage Period

Snapchat is giving users 12 months of temporary storage for Memories over the 5GB limit. This grace period gives you time to decide whether to pay for storage or export your Snaps.

How To Save Your Snapchat Memories For Free

Here are two simple ways to preserve your Memories without paying:

1. Export Memories to Your Device

You can download Snaps directly to your phone or computer. This ensures you never lose your favorite moments. On Snapchat:

  1. Open your Memories tab.

  2. Select the Snaps you want to save.

  3. Tap Export and choose your device storage.

2. Use Cloud Storage Alternatives

If your phone storage is limited, you can save Memories to Google Photos, iCloud, or Dropbox. Simply export from Snapchat, then upload to your preferred cloud service.

Snapchat is going to charge for storage, but you don’t have to pay to keep your memories safe. By exporting Snaps or using free cloud options, you can continue to preserve your digital time capsule without spending a dime. Act now to avoid losing your recent Snaps once the free 12-month period ends.
