Google’s Search Live comes to India, AI Mode gets more languages — a major step in expanding AI-powered search to one of Google’s fastest-growing markets. Search Live is Google’s new conversational, AI-powered feature that lets you point your camera at anything and ask questions about it in real time. It builds on Google’s Project Astra technology and is powered by the company’s advanced Gemini AI model.
With this rollout, India becomes the second market after the U.S. to get Search Live. It’s a natural fit for a country filled with early AI adopters who already use Google’s voice and visual search tools extensively.
How It Works
To access Search Live, open the Google app and tap the “Live” icon under the search bar, or go through Google Lens and select “Live”. You can then point your camera at an object — like a landmark, a dish, or a gadget — and have a back-and-forth conversation with Google to learn more.
The system combines what it sees through your camera with your spoken or typed queries, offering real-time insights and follow-up suggestions. It’s a new step toward truly multimodal AI interactions.
India’s Role In Google’s AI Push
“People in India are power users of multimodal search, forming our largest user base for both voice and visual search globally,” said Hema Budaraju, Vice President of Product Management for Search at Google.
India’s huge, diverse, and digitally active population makes it an ideal testing ground for Google’s next-generation AI products. The rollout here will help Google train its AI systems on wider visual and linguistic data, improving the feature’s accuracy worldwide.
AI Mode Expands To More Languages
Alongside the Search Live rollout, Google is expanding AI Mode to seven new Indian languages: Bengali, Kannada, Malayalam, Marathi, Tamil, Telugu, and Urdu. These join English and Hindi, bringing a more inclusive AI experience to millions of new users.
Globally, AI Mode is now available in more than 35 new languages and over 40 new countries, marking a massive expansion of Google’s multimodal search ecosystem.
Why It Matters
This expansion reflects how search is evolving — from typing to talking, and from reading to seeing. For Indian users, it means:
-
Seamless access to information in local languages
-
Real-time, camera-based answers for everyday needs
-
Better accessibility for non-English speakers
-
New opportunities for local businesses to appear in visual and AI-driven results
It’s a glimpse into how AI is redefining search — making it faster, smarter, and more human.
How To Get Started
-
Update your Google app.
-
Tap the “Live” icon under the search bar or open Google Lens → Live.
-

Search Live will continue rolling out to more users across India in the coming weeks.
With Google’s Search Live coming to India and AI Mode getting more languages, the company is doubling down on its vision for a more intuitive and accessible search experience. This is not just a feature update — it’s a shift toward the future of search, where voice, visuals, and AI combine to deliver instant, context-aware answers.
