Android 16 Update Begins For Galaxy S22, S22+, And S22 Ultra

According to Samsung tracker Tarun Vats, Samsung starts rolling out Android 16 to the Galaxy S22 series — including the Galaxy S22, Galaxy S22+, and Galaxy S22 Ultra. The update weighs over 3GB and delivers the latest version of Samsung’s software experience, One UI 8.

This marks the end of major OS updates for the Galaxy S22 series, which first debuted in 2022. With Android 16, the devices have now received all four promised Android version upgrades — from Android 12 to Android 16.

A Look Back At The Galaxy S22’s Legacy

The Galaxy S22 series represented a pivotal moment for Samsung’s flagship lineup. It was the first Galaxy S series to feature a built-in S Pen on the Ultra model, unifying the Note and S lines. The design language introduced with the S22 continues to influence newer flagships like the Galaxy S25.

Despite its lasting appeal, the S22 series was part of Samsung’s four-year major update policy, unlike newer devices such as the Pixel 8 and Galaxy S24, which now receive seven years of software support.

Security Support Still Continues

While Android 16 is the final major OS upgrade for the Galaxy S22, Samsung isn’t ending support completely. The company will continue providing security patches for at least one more year, ensuring users remain protected.

There’s also speculation that the Galaxy S22 series could receive One UI 8.5 in early 2026, expected to roll out alongside Samsung’s January update cycle.

Limited Rollout Now, Global Expansion Soon

As of now, Android 16 for the Galaxy S22 series is available in Europe, with a broader release planned for more regions in the coming weeks. Users can check for the update by navigating to Settings > Software Update > Download and Install on their devices.
