On Monday, Jimmy Donaldson — better known as MrBeast — posted on social media expressing concern over the rise of AI-generated videos and their potential to replace human creativity. “Scary times,” he wrote, hinting at how the technology could reshape the digital entertainment world.
MrBeast’s Warning Hits Hard For Smaller Creators
As Forbes’ No. 1 creator of 2025, with over 634 million followers and $85 million in earnings, MrBeast’s words carry serious weight. His fears highlight what many smaller creators already feel — that AI tools could make it harder for humans to compete for attention, views, and revenue online.
If someone at MrBeast’s level is questioning whether AI poses an existential threat to the creator business, it’s fair to say the rest of the industry is feeling the pressure too.
AI Tools Are Taking Over YouTube And Beyond
MrBeast’s comments come just as OpenAI launched Sora 2, its upgraded video and audio generator. The update includes a mobile app that lets users instantly create and share AI-generated videos in a TikTok-style feed — a format that’s already topping the U.S. App Store charts.
Meanwhile, YouTube is diving deeper into AI, offering creators tools to auto-edit videos, animate still photos, and even generate new clips using its Veo model. An AI chatbot inside YouTube Studio now helps creators manage channels, generate ideas, and answer production questions.
The shift is fast — and for many, a little unnerving.
Even MrBeast Has Used AI — But With Caution
Interestingly, MrBeast has also dabbled in AI himself. Earlier this year, he launched an AI-powered thumbnail generator on his analytics platform, Viewstats. After facing backlash from fans and creators who argued it undercut human artists, he removed the feature and replaced it with links to real designers available for commissions.
His company’s philanthropy arm has also invested in AI-related projects, showing that even while warning of its risks, MrBeast recognizes its potential.
Is AI The Future Of Content Creation Or Just ‘Slop’?
The debate remains wide open. Some believe AI will democratize creativity — allowing anyone to produce high-quality videos. Others argue it will flood social media with low-effort, soulless content often dismissed as “AI slop.”
For now, the creator community is split between excitement and anxiety. MrBeast says AI could threaten creators’ livelihoods, but he also acknowledges that adaptation may be key to survival in these “scary times.”
