When it comes to innovation in tech, it’s not always Silicon Valley founders leading the charge. Sometimes, it’s athletes stepping in with purpose. Meet the end-of-life planning startup co-founded by NBA All-Star Russell Westbrook, a new venture aiming to transform how families handle one of life’s most difficult moments.

Eazewell, founded by Donnell Beverly Jr. after the loss of his parents, takes on the burden of end-of-life planning with the help of AI. Beverly turned his personal pain into a mission to help others, and he called on longtime friend and nine-time NBA All-Star Russell Westbrook to bring that vision to life.
The Inspiration Behind Eazewell
“The main thesis with Russ across every business that he touches is how do we impact people?” Beverly shared. After losing both of his parents in quick succession, he realized how fragmented and overwhelming the process of funeral and estate planning could be.
Westbrook immediately agreed to join the mission. Soon after, four-time NBA All-Star Kemba Walker also came on board, giving the startup even more visibility and credibility.
How The Startup Works
Eazewell is an AI-driven platform that helps families navigate the administrative side of end-of-life planning. The platform’s AI agent is available 24/7, guiding users through everything from booking funeral homes to canceling credit cards.
The company has partnered with hospice care providers, funeral homes, and insurance companies to create a seamless experience. While the basic platform is free, users can pay for additional premium features tailored to their needs.
Russell Westbrook’s Role
Westbrook isn’t just a celebrity investor—he’s personally connected to the mission. “I had an opportunity to be able to be close with his family and go through the process with [Beverly],” he explained. “He’s done an amazing job of idealizing this idea and bringing it to life. I’m excited to be a partner alongside him.”
By lending both his platform and personal support, Westbrook brings Eazewell mainstream attention in a market that is often overlooked.
Why This Matters
End-of-life planning is something most families avoid until it’s too late. Eazewell wants to change that by providing clarity and support at a time when people need it most.
The startup not only simplifies the logistics but also removes the financial and emotional strain tied to the process. For Beverly, Westbrook, and Walker, the mission is clear: make a painful experience a little easier for families everywhere.
