Instagram’s Latest Feature Lets You Go Back to See Your Watched Reels

Instagram’s latest feature lets you go back to see your watched Reels — a long-requested update that’s finally here. The new Watch History feature allows users to revisit Reels they’ve previously watched, offering a more convenient way to rediscover content they may have missed. This move puts Instagram on par with TikTok, which has had a similar feature for years.

A Closer Look at the New Watch History Feature

The Watch History feature is designed for moments when you lose track of an interesting video — maybe you received a call, accidentally closed the app, or simply scrolled past too quickly. With this update, you can now access every Reel you’ve watched, right from your profile settings.

Instagram head Adam Mosseri explained the feature in a post, saying:

“Have you ever tried to get back to a reel that you’d seen on Instagram and you just can’t find it? Well, there is a new feature that should help. If you go to ‘Profile,’ under ‘Settings,’ and then ‘Your Activity,’ you’ll find ‘Watch History,’ where you can see every reel you’ve ever watched.”

How to Access Instagram’s Watch History

To find your watched Reels:

  1. Go to your Profile.

  2. Tap Settings and Privacy.

  3. Navigate to Your ActivityWatch History.

You’ll be able to view all your watched Reels, filter them by date, or even clear specific entries if you prefer to keep things private.

More Control and Flexibility for Users

Unlike TikTok’s basic watch history, Instagram’s latest feature lets you go back to see your watched Reels with added flexibility. You can sort your list chronologically, in reverse order, or even by creator. This makes it easier to track down that one memorable video from a favorite account.

If you’re concerned about privacy, Instagram also allows you to delete individual Reels from your history or clear your entire list — giving users full control over their viewing data.

Why This Update Matters for Instagram Users

Before this rollout, users often relied on frustrating workarounds, such as downloading their data from Instagram to manually search through it. The Watch History update eliminates that hassle and makes content rediscovery effortless.

This feature reflects Instagram’s ongoing effort to enhance user experience and close the feature gap with TikTok. It’s part of Meta’s larger push to make Reels as engaging and user-friendly as its competitors’ short-form platforms.

Instagram Continues Expanding Its Reels Experience

Since introducing Reels as a response to TikTok, Instagram has steadily added new capabilities. Recent updates include the ability to link multiple Reels into a series and Picture-in-Picture playback — both of which improve engagement and multitasking.

Now, Instagram’s latest feature lets you go back to see your watched Reels, marking another significant step toward making Reels a more complete entertainment hub. For creators, this means more visibility for their videos, as users can now easily revisit and re-engage with past content.

Instagram’s Watch History feature is a small but powerful update that improves how users interact with Reels. It simplifies discovery, adds convenience, and helps users stay connected to content they care about.

With features like this, Instagram continues to blur the line between social media and entertainment — ensuring that users never lose track of the videos that matter most.
