Apple Reportedly Working On New AirPods Pro, AirPods 5, And H3 Chip
Apple is reportedly working on new AirPods Pro, AirPods 5, and H3 Chip, signaling a major upgrade for its popular wireless earbuds lineup. According to Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, Apple’s next generation of AirPods could deliver significant improvements in audio quality, connectivity, and performance.

After launching the AirPods Pro 3 just last month, Apple seems to be wasting no time preparing its next iteration. Gurman describes the upcoming version as a “new” high-end model rather than confirming if it will be branded as AirPods Pro 4.
Previously, Apple released minor updates such as USB-C charging for the AirPods Pro 2 without changing the model name. This time, though, leaks suggest a more ambitious refresh that could redefine what premium wireless earbuds can do.
Rumored Upgrades And New Features
Analyst Ming-Chi Kuo predicts “more significant” hardware changes next year, possibly including a tiny infrared camera. This feature could improve spatial audio accuracy and gesture controls. A report from Weibo even hints at a higher-end version of AirPods Pro 3, much like how the AirPods 4 come in two options — with or without Active Noise Cancellation.
The H3 Chip: A Big Step Forward
One of the biggest upgrades could be the new H3 chip, which Apple is reportedly developing for wireless audio. This next-gen chip aims to enhance sound quality, reduce latency, and improve efficiency — all key factors for music lovers and gamers alike. While Gurman didn’t confirm which models will get the H3 chip first, it’s expected to power both the upcoming AirPods Pro and AirPods 5.
AirPods 5: Two Versions In Development
According to Gurman, Apple is also planning two tiers of AirPods 5 — one standard and one with advanced features. This mirrors Apple’s strategy with previous models and gives users more options depending on their budget and needs.
While the AirPods Pro 3 already include heart rate monitoring, Gurman doesn’t expect this feature to appear in the AirPods 5. However, Apple is reportedly exploring new health sensors, such as temperature tracking, to expand its wellness-focused ecosystem.
What It Means For Apple’s Audio Lineup
With the new AirPods Pro, AirPods 5, and H3 Chip all in development, Apple appears to be positioning its audio products for another leap forward in 2025. Improved sound, health integration, and smarter chips could make AirPods even more essential to the Apple ecosystem — from workouts to daily listening.
