Stellantis Drops Electrified Jeep Gladiator Plans Amid Strategy Shift

Stellantis Cancels Plans for an Electrified Jeep Gladiator

Stellantis cancels plans for an electrified Jeep Gladiator, pulling the plug on what was once expected to be a major addition to the U.S. market. The automaker confirmed the decision as part of a broader shift in its electrification strategy, citing customer demand and evolving preferences.

The Jeep Gladiator 4xe plug-in hybrid was originally scheduled for launch in North America by the end of 2025. However, Stellantis revealed in a statement that the electrified Jeep Gladiator will no longer move forward, marking another change in the company’s electric vehicle roadmap.

Why Stellantis Pulled the Plug

In an emailed statement, Stellantis said customer propulsion preferences are shifting, which forced the company to reassess its product lineup.

“The Jeep Gladiator carries its rugged styling and authentic design into 2026 while adding incredible new content straight from the factory,” Stellantis said.

The automaker emphasized that while the electrified variant is gone, the Gladiator itself will continue as the only open-air pickup truck in the industry—combining Jeep’s legendary 4x4 capability with new customization options and expanded powertrain choices.

What’s Next for the Jeep Gladiator

Stellantis made clear that the Jeep Gladiator isn’t disappearing. Instead, the brand is reinvesting in the truck to ensure long-term growth. Future models will introduce:

  • More factory customization options

  • Additional powertrain choices

  • Customer-requested features designed for both off-road enthusiasts and everyday drivers

This signals that Stellantis still sees strong value in the Gladiator but doesn’t see enough demand to justify an electrified version at this time.

A Pattern in Stellantis’ EV Strategy

The decision comes shortly after Stellantis also canceled its plans for a Ram-branded battery-electric full-size pickup. That vehicle had been positioned as part of the company’s U.S. strategy to sell more than 25 all-new battery electric vehicles (BEVs).

By cutting both projects, Stellantis appears to be taking a more cautious approach to electrification in the U.S., focusing on where customer adoption is strongest rather than spreading resources thin.

For Stellantis, canceling the electrified Jeep Gladiator underscores the challenges automakers face in predicting EV demand. While Jeep remains a strong brand in off-road and adventure vehicles, its customers may not yet be ready to fully embrace electrified trucks.

Still, with other electrified Jeep models like the Wrangler 4xe performing well, the company is likely betting that Gladiator customers prefer rugged versatility and traditional powertrains—at least for now.
