Who Are Oracle’s New Co-CEOs?
Clay Magouyrk joined Oracle in 2014 after a stint at Amazon Web Services. He became a founding member of Oracle’s cloud engineering team and has led the company’s cloud infrastructure division for more than a decade. His technical expertise has been central to Oracle’s AI and cloud expansion.
Mike Sicilia, meanwhile, has been with Oracle since 2008, when the company acquired Primavera Systems. Over the years, he has held several leadership roles and most recently served as president of Oracle’s industries division, overseeing growth across vertical markets.
Safra Catz Moves to Executive Vice Chair
Safra Catz, who has served as Oracle’s CEO since 2014, is stepping into a new position as executive vice chair of the board of directors. Catz expressed confidence in Oracle’s momentum, saying, “Today, Oracle is recognized as the cloud of choice for both AI training and inferencing. Our breathtaking growth rate points to an even more prosperous future. At this time of strength, it’s the right moment to pass the CEO role to the next generation of capable executives.”
Oracle’s Push Into AI and Cloud
While Oracle has long been known for its enterprise software and cloud infrastructure, it is increasingly staking its claim in AI. Earlier this year, the company announced its involvement in the $500 billion Stargate Project with OpenAI and SoftBank, aiming to build massive data centers and AI infrastructure across the U.S.
Just weeks ago, Oracle also struck a landmark deal with OpenAI, securing $300 billion in commitments to supply the AI firm with infrastructure support. These moves position Oracle as a serious competitor in the race to power the next wave of AI innovation.
Why This Leadership Shift Matters
By appointing Magouyrk and Sicilia as co-CEOs, Oracle is doubling down on leadership that blends deep technical expertise with industry know-how. The decision comes at a time when AI infrastructure is becoming the most critical battleground for big tech, and Oracle is making sure it has the right executives to steer its growth.
