TikTok’s Latest Feature Lets College Students Find and Connect with Classmates
TikTok is rolling out a new feature that lets college students find and connect with classmates, called Campus Verification. Similar to Facebook’s early days, this feature allows students to add their college to their profile and browse a list of other verified students at their school.

How Campus Verification Works
To use the feature, students simply go to their profile and tap the “Add school” button. After entering their school name and graduation year, they verify their student status using an academic email address. Once confirmed, their college and graduation year appear on their profile.
From there, users can explore their school’s page, filter by graduation year, and see all students who have added the same college. They can even sort the list to see the most-followed classmates first.
Access Across Thousands of Universities
The feature is available at over 6,000 universities thanks to TikTok’s partnership with UNiDAYS, a platform that confirms student status. This ensures that only actual students can add a school to their profile.
TikTok’s Vision: Campus Connections
TikTok says the goal is to turn its platform into a hub for real-world connections, giving students a sense of belonging on campus. This approach mirrors Facebook’s original mission when it launched in 2004 to help Harvard students connect.
Privacy Considerations
While this new feature can help students build meaningful connections, it also raises privacy concerns. With easier access to classmates’ profiles, some may worry about digital tracking. Fortunately, Campus Verification is optional, so students who prefer to keep their TikTok separate from their academic life can skip adding their school.
