The Boring Company is finally testing Tesla’s ‘Full Self-Driving’ in its Las Vegas tunnels
The Boring Company is finally testing Tesla’s ‘Full Self-Driving’ in its Las Vegas tunnels, marking a major step toward autonomous underground transportation. The tests are happening in Tesla vehicles equipped with the company’s advanced driver-assistance software, with safety drivers onboard to oversee operations.

According to Fortune, Steve Hill, CEO of the Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority, confirmed that the system has been under trial for several months. However, he noted that any large-scale rollout of the self-driving software inside the tunnels is still “a ways off.”
Testing in the Las Vegas Loop
The Las Vegas Convention Center Loop has been open for about four years. While The Boring Company has big plans to expand the underground system throughout the city, it currently connects only the Convention Center to nearby hotels.
With Tesla’s Full Self-Driving now in testing, the project is moving closer to its vision of a futuristic, driverless transit network. But for now, every vehicle still requires a human safety driver to step in if needed.
Expansion Plans and Future Vision
Elon Musk’s vision for The Boring Company includes a vast network of underground tunnels beneath Las Vegas and potentially other cities. The integration of Tesla’s self-driving technology could make this system faster, safer, and more efficient, while reducing traffic congestion on surface roads.
Still, the technology must prove itself in real-world conditions. Regulatory approval, safety validation, and rider trust will play a huge role before Tesla’s Full Self-Driving becomes the backbone of the Vegas tunnel network.
What’s Next for Tesla and The Boring Company?
Tesla recently launched a limited, invite-only robotaxi program, signaling the company’s bigger ambitions in autonomous mobility. If these Vegas tunnel tests go well, it could pave the way for fully driverless rides in the near future.
For now, riders can expect Tesla vehicles with safety drivers behind the wheel—but the testing of Tesla’s Full Self-Driving inside The Boring Company tunnels is a clear sign that the future of transportation is moving underground.
