Spotify Launches In-App Direct Messaging for Music Sharing, giving users a new way to connect over songs, podcasts, and audiobooks without leaving the app. The feature is rolling out this week across select markets and will be available to both Free and Premium users aged 16 and older.
How Spotify’s New Messaging Works
The direct messaging tool integrates seamlessly with Spotify’s existing share function. While listening, users can tap the share icon in the Now Playing view, choose a friend, and send music recommendations instantly.
Recipients will see message requests that they can accept or reject. Once connected, they can reply with text or emoji reactions, making music sharing more personal and interactive.
Designed for One-on-One Conversations
Messages are currently limited to one-on-one chats. Users must have a prior Spotify connection, such as through Jams, Blends, Collaborative Playlists, or shared Family/Duo plans. This helps ensure safety and keeps conversations relevant to music discovery.
A Central Inbox for Shared Content
All music, podcast, and audiobook recommendations are stored in a dedicated Messages inbox, accessible through your profile picture. This gives fans a central space to revisit their shared favorites at any time.
