Nvidia Said to Be Developing New, More Powerful AI Chip for Sale in China
Nvidia said to be developing new, more powerful AI chip for sale in China as the tech giant aims to maintain its foothold in one of the world’s largest markets. According to Reuters, the new chip, codenamed B30A, is expected to be half as powerful as Nvidia’s flagship B300 Blackwell GPU, but still significantly stronger than the H20 GPUs currently allowed for export to China.

The B30A chip will feature a single-die design, unlike the dual-die architecture of the B300 GPUs. Despite this, it will retain key features like fast data transmission, support for NVLink, and high-bandwidth memory, making it a powerful tool for AI applications.
What Nvidia’s New AI Chip Means for China
This new development highlights Nvidia’s determination to keep China as a key growth market. Sources indicate that the B30A is separate from another chip Nvidia is reportedly developing for the country.
In an official statement, Nvidia said:
“We evaluate a variety of products for our roadmap, so that we can be prepared to compete to the extent that governments allow. Everything we offer is with the full approval of the applicable authorities and designed solely for beneficial commercial use.”
U.S.-China AI Tensions and Chip Exports
The move comes as the U.S. government has recently relaxed restrictions on exporting high-performance AI chips to China. However, Reuters notes that approvals for the new B30A chip are not guaranteed.
As the AI race intensifies, critics argue that the U.S. must control advanced technology exports to maintain its competitive edge. Meanwhile, Nvidia and its competitors view China as a critical market, and losing ground to rivals like Huawei could significantly impact their growth.
