The Montana Motor Vehicle Division (MVD) has introduced Montana Mobile IDs, giving residents a secure way to use their iPhone or Apple Watch as a valid ID. These digital IDs can be used online, in apps, and in person. Businesses participating in the program can quickly verify age for restricted purchases without needing full personal details like address or date of birth.
A Push Toward Modernization
According to MVD Administrator Laurie Bakri, this launch is part of a broader effort to modernize services.
“We have spent the last three years modernizing MVD and improving operating efficiencies and customer service. Now that we have overhauled the basics, we are excited to embark on an era of innovation, starting with Montana Mobile IDs and the Montana Mobile ID Verifier for Android and iOS devices,” she said.
How Montana Residents Can Add Their ID
Adding a digital ID is simple. Montana residents just need to:
-
Open the Apple Wallet app on their iPhone.
-
Tap the “+” button.
-
Follow the on-screen instructions to add their license or state ID.
Once set up, the digital ID works seamlessly across supported apps and at participating businesses, cutting down on the need to carry a physical card.
Why This Matters
With iPhone Driver's License Support Expanding to Montana, Apple continues to push digital identity adoption across the U.S. This move not only improves convenience but also strengthens security, since Wallet IDs share only the necessary information during verification.
