Apple homeOS Trademark Sparks Speculation Ahead of WWDC 2025
Is Apple launching a new smart home platform called homeOS? That’s the question buzzing in tech circles as new trademark activity suggests Apple may finally unveil its long-rumored smart home operating system. With WWDC 2025 just days away, evidence is mounting that Apple’s vision for connected home devices is taking shape. From trademarks filed under a mysterious shell company to references in official Apple job listings and code snippets, homeOS could soon be the centerpiece of Apple’s next-gen home automation ecosystem.
Image : GoogleRecent trademark filings for homeOS in countries including the U.S., Argentina, and Peru—alongside an earlier registration in Liechtenstein—have surfaced under a shell company named Home Operations Suite LLC. Although Apple’s direct involvement isn’t confirmed, the company has a well-documented history of using generic LLCs to protect intellectual property ahead of major product launches. This same strategy was used before the 2023 launch of visionOS and the Vision Pro headset.
So what exactly is homeOS? Based on references in tvOS 17.4 code and past Apple job listings, it’s expected to be the operating system for a new smart home hub—essentially a HomePod with a built-in screen. The device may feature a square iPad-like display mounted on a speaker base or wall, blending entertainment, communication, and smart home control in one seamless interface.
Users could enjoy FaceTime calls, control smart home accessories like lights and thermostats, communicate via Apple’s intercom feature, and even use the device as a home security system.
Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo has suggested that production for the screen-equipped HomePod will begin in Q3 2025. However, with personalized Siri capabilities still in development, the product’s release may stretch into next year. That said, Apple has a habit of teasing hardware well in advance—making next week's WWDC keynote a prime opportunity for a first look at homeOS and the hardware it powers.
As demand grows for integrated smart home ecosystems and voice-controlled automation, Apple seems poised to compete more aggressively with Amazon Alexa and Google Home. If announced, homeOS could open the door to future Apple-designed security cameras, automation tools, and AI-driven assistants—all tied into the company’s privacy-first ecosystem.
Stay tuned—WWDC 2025 could mark the start of a smarter, more connected Apple home.
