Other investors, including Maverick Silicon, Nexus Venture Partners, and Prosperity7, also participated—showing broad support for the company’s approach to affordable, scalable AI infrastructure.
Data Center Expansion Amid Market Volatility
This investment comes at a time when many data center providers are facing mounting challenges. Industry analysts from TD Cowen warn of 5% to 15% increases in build costs due to tariffs on key components like server racks and advanced chips. Meanwhile, concerns about overcapacity are slowing mega-projects, including OpenAI’s much-anticipated $500 billion Stargate facility. But TensorWave appears to be defying this trend.
According to CEO Darrick Horton, the company is on track to hit a run-rate revenue of over $100 million by year’s end—a 20x increase from the previous year. Based in Las Vegas, Nevada, TensorWave has remained nimble by leveraging AMD’s cost-performance advantage in the AI compute space, allowing it to attract both AI startups and enterprise developers seeking GPU cloud alternatives to Nvidia.
AMD vs Nvidia in the AI Cloud Wars
While Nvidia remains the dominant force in AI training hardware, TensorWave’s early bet on AMD GPUs is starting to pay off. The company recently deployed a massive AI training cluster featuring 8,192 AMD Instinct MI325X GPUs, focused on delivering affordable, dedicated compute resources for training large language models (LLMs), generative AI applications, and other advanced workloads. This buildout allows TensorWave to serve developers looking for low-latency inference, high throughput, and cost-efficient AI model training.
“Securing this $100 million round accelerates our mission to democratize access to cutting-edge AI compute,” said Horton. “Our MI325X cluster is just the beginning.”
Scaling Operations and Team Growth
The new capital infusion will also fuel TensorWave’s operational scale-up. The company currently employs about 40 people and aims to more than double its headcount by the end of the year. Key hires will support both technical development and customer onboarding as the company expands its cloud platform offerings to a broader user base.
Competitive Landscape and Future Outlook
TensorWave is not alone in backing AMD’s AI chips. Other companies like Lamini, Nscale, Microsoft Azure, and Oracle Cloud Infrastructure are also adopting AMD hardware for specific AI and cloud compute use cases. But few have made AMD such a core part of their infrastructure strategy as TensorWave, which was founded in 2023 by Horton, Jeff Tatarchuk, and Piotr Tomasik—all serial tech entrepreneurs with a track record of scaling cloud and digital ventures.
By targeting AI developers, machine learning engineers, and cloud-native startups, TensorWave is carving a niche in the growing demand for GPU compute infrastructure that balances performance and price—two critical factors for the next wave of generative AI innovation.
