Google has just rolled out a major update to the Gemini app’s model picker, streamlining the options available for users. If you’re a Gemini Advanced subscriber, you might have noticed that the web interface is now showing fewer choices. Instead of a long list of models, there are now only four core offerings, designed to make your experience faster and more personalized. This update marks a shift in how users interact with the tool, providing clearer and more straightforward options for different needs.

For more specialized tasks, users can select 2.5 Pro (preview), which excels at reasoning, math, and code. For a personalized touch, there’s also 2.0 Flash with Search history, which customizes responses based on your usage history. Google has retired models like “Deep Research with 2.5 Pro” and “Veo 2,” which were never intended for general use.
This cleaner selection aims to make it easier for users to choose the right model for their needs. Additionally, Google has introduced a new capability called Video, which is now available through the prompt bar. This feature was being tested since April and offers even more flexibility for users interested in creating video content. Along with these changes, the Canvas model now sports a new icon, making it easier to identify.
Google’s move to simplify the model picker and focus on more efficient and specialized tools shows its commitment to improving user experience and boosting overall performance. Whether you’re working on complex reasoning tasks or just need quick help, the new Gemini model picker is designed to meet your needs faster and with more precision than ever before.
