Apple is working on developing new chips designed to power smart glasses, more powerful Macs, and advanced AI servers. These chips will play a crucial role in enhancing Apple’s tech ecosystem, with a particular focus on smart glasses, which Apple plans to use as a major competitor against Meta’s Ray-Ban Meta. According to Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, one of the chips under development is inspired by the Apple Watch’s energy-efficient processors, aimed at ensuring longer battery life in wearables like smart glasses.

Since the launch of Meta's Ray-Ban Meta smart glasses in 2023, the company has sold approximately 2 million pairs, signaling a growing interest in this category. Apple, however, is eyeing a different approach—non-augmented reality (AR) glasses that integrate cameras to scan the environment and leverage AI for enhanced functionality. This innovative design is aimed at providing users with a seamless experience while ensuring that battery life is not compromised.
One of the standout features of Apple’s new chip development is its ability to power these glasses efficiently. As reported, one of the chips will be capable of controlling cameras and other critical components without draining the battery excessively. With TSMC (Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company) expected to begin mass production of these chips by the end of 2026 or 2027, Apple is gearing up for a significant shift in the wearables and smart glasses markets.
In addition to the smart glasses, Apple’s focus on powerful new Macs and AI servers signifies its broader strategy to bolster its hardware and software offerings. By developing specialized chips for these categories, Apple aims to provide a more integrated, efficient, and high-performing computing experience for both consumer and enterprise markets. As the competition in the tech world intensifies, Apple’s new chips could prove to be a game-changer, further solidifying the company’s position in the industry.
