With more than $300 million raised from leading investors like Andreessen Horowitz, Sapphire Ventures, and General Catalyst, the company was last valued at $1.7 billion in 2022. The addition of Numbers Station strengthens Alation’s position in the fast-evolving AI in enterprise data management space.

Numbers Station, a promising Series A startup backed by Norwest Venture Partners, Madrona, and Factory, has raised over $17 million to date. Known for building intelligent AI agents that work natively with structured data, the company is a natural fit for Alation's mission. The integration of Numbers Station’s AI models will enhance Alation’s ability to offer automated data documentation, data quality agents, and scalable AI-driven workflow automations.

According to Alation’s co-founder and CEO, Satyen Sangani, the complementary architecture between the two companies will allow for rapid integration, expected to be completed by the end of this quarter. “We’re building a translation layer between large language models and enterprise data. Numbers Station has already built what we need,” Sangani said in an interview.

This acquisition also comes with a human connection: Venky Ganti, co-founder of Alation, previously spent time at Numbers Station, further strengthening the strategic alignment.

Alation had already begun developing its own AI agents last year, focusing on data quality and documentation. However, acquiring Numbers Station accelerates their roadmap and enables the delivery of enterprise-grade AI solutions much faster. These enhancements will help businesses deploy AI responsibly and accurately, minimizing hallucinations often associated with large language models (LLMs) and enhancing AI explainability in enterprise data environments.

By combining Alation’s rich metadata, enterprise connectors, and contextual knowledge with Numbers Station’s cutting-edge AI, this acquisition is set to reshape how companies harness the power of AI to manage structured data.
