Google Family Link Redesign Rolls Out on Android with Improved Screen Time Controls
Following last month’s announcement, Google is now rolling out a redesign of Android’s Family Link app for parents. The goal is to bring the “most important tools and resources for managing screen time to the forefront.” Image:Google Instead of “Highlights,” the first tab is “Screen time” with the top card noting “Time spent today” and the most used apps. Tapping provides a more detailed usage breakdown. This is followed by cards for their Device (with a “Lock” shortcut), Time limits, and Schedules. With this update, Google has “combined app limit & daily limit into one button so you can manage time limits seamlessly.”  The Controls tab is still at the center with some Material You flourishes. There are prominent links to Google Account settings, Google Play, YouTube, Google Chrome and Web, Google Search, Google Photos, Location settings, and Signed-in devices.  Location is the final section with some map modernizations.
