Meta Shuts Down Messenger Desktop Apps

Meta To Shut Down Messenger Desktop Apps For Mac And Windows Meta has officially announced that it will shut down Messenger desktop apps for Mac and Windows on December 15, 2025. The company confirmed the news, signaling the end of the standalone Messenger experience for desktop users. Instead, they’ll be automatically redirected to Facebook.com to continue chatting. Users Will Be Redirected To Facebook.com Meta is already alerting users through in-app notifications. “You’ll have 60 days to use the Mac Messenger app before it is fully deprecated,” a Messenger help page explains. Once that grace period ends, users will be blocked from accessing the app. Meta also recommends deleting the old desktop app since it will no longer function.
