Max plan subscribers will see a more generous allocation—140 to 280 hours for Sonnet 4 and 15 to 35 hours for Opus 4 on the $100/month plan, and 240 to 480 hours for Sonnet 4 and 24 to 40 hours for Opus 4 on the $200/month plan. Though Anthropic states usage depends on codebase size and other technical variables, some developers have raised concerns about transparency and consistency in how limits are measured.
These thresholds might be especially relevant for development teams using Claude Code as a persistent part of their CI/CD pipelines or those integrating Claude into continuous code generation tasks. Still, the announcement suggests a shift in how Anthropic views sustainability for its AI services. By charging Max plan subscribers standard API rates for additional hours beyond their weekly limits, the company is subtly nudging heavy users toward enterprise-level billing structures—aligning with broader industry trends of monetizing high-output AI interactions.

For developers relying heavily on Claude Code, these updates may require some planning. First, assess your current usage trends. If your workflows consistently hit the upper end of your subscription’s usage window, you may need to optimize prompts, batch requests more efficiently, or budget for overage charges.
