Apple’s much-anticipated iOS 26.4 update is set to introduce a revamped Siri powered by Apple Intelligence, but not everyone inside the company is feeling confident. According to reports, some Apple employees have concerns about iOS 26.4’s revamped Siri, raising questions about whether the new AI assistant is ready for prime time.

With iOS 26.4, Siri is getting its biggest upgrade in years. The assistant will gain on-screen awareness, personal context, and in-app controls, allowing it to perform tasks based on what’s happening on your screen or within your apps.
For example, users might ask Siri about their mother’s upcoming flight or lunch plans, and it will pull that information directly from the Mail and Messages apps — a major step toward a more personalized, proactive voice assistant experience.
Internal Concerns Over Performance
In his Power On newsletter, Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman revealed that some Apple software engineers have expressed concerns about the new Siri’s performance. While he didn’t specify exact issues, the implication is that Siri’s new intelligence features might not yet be reliable enough for launch.
Apple still has time to refine the system — iOS 26.4 is expected to roll out between March and April 2026 — giving the company several months to address any lingering performance challenges.
A Long Road To Smarter Siri
The upgraded Siri was first previewed at WWDC 2024, where Apple showcased its ambitious plan to blend AI with user context and privacy. Initially, the launch was rumored for iOS 18.4, but delays pushed the debut back to 2026.
Apple CEO Tim Cook said in July that the company was making “good progress” on developing a more natural, context-aware Siri. However, insiders now worry that if the current concerns persist, the iOS 26.4 release could face further setbacks.
Why It Matters
Apple’s move to integrate deeper intelligence into Siri is part of its broader Apple Intelligence strategy, aimed at catching up with AI assistants like ChatGPT and Google Assistant. But internal skepticism highlights just how complex the shift to truly smart, privacy-respecting AI can be.
If Apple manages to smooth out the bugs, iOS 26.4’s revamped Siri could mark a turning point in how users interact with their iPhones. But if not, those employee concerns might prove to be an early warning sign of another delayed innovation cycle.
